Introduction |
Taiwan
is a picturesque “green silicon island” of 23 millions people in
population. Among Taiwan’s great
natural assets are its stupendous mountains, beautiful coastal scenes,

Taipei,

Taipei 101
a must-visit, is Taiwan’s
architectural wonder and currently the tallest building of the world (
at 1671 feet). The 360-degree view of the city from the observatory
tower has recently become one of the most popular tourist’s attractions.

Visa |
Visa-Exempt Entry
Visa-exempt entry is afforded to citizens
of the following 31 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France,
Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea,
Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands,
New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland,
U.K. and the U.S.A.
Landing Visas
Citizens from Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland are eligible for
landing visas. Citizens from other countries need a visa to visit Taiwan.
For Passports Holders of the People's Republic
of China
Residents in the Mainland China may apply to the Immigration
Office through the help of their relatives or the sponsoring organizations in the
Taiwan Area. It is advised that Mainland Chinese residents start to apply
for a visa 2-3 months ahead of the conference because it usually takes 2 months
to process the visa. Therefore, Chinese participants must register
early and an extra charge of NT$2000 will be charged for handling their
cases.

Money |
Currency Exchange
New Taiwanese dollars include two forms: paper bills and coins. The face
value of the paper bills are: NT$2000, NT$1000, NT$500, NT$200 and
NT$100. For the coins: NT$50, NT$10, NT$5 and NT$1. For foreign currency
exchange, you can visit banks appointed by the government or
international hotels. When you exchange your money, you will be given a
receipt. Before you leave Taiwan, you will need the receipt to exchange
your cash back to your own currency. (Yahoo!

Credit Card
It is easy to use credit cards in Taipei. VISA, Mastercard, JCB and
American Express are all widely accepted. Most bank ATMs(cash
dispensers) can be used for cash withdrawals using credit cards.
ATM(Cash Dispensers)
ATMs are plentiful in Taipei, located at banks and in most convenience
store.
Tax Refund
Travelers purchasing items at shops bearing a "TRS" mark for items
exceeding NT$3,000 will be entitled to a tax-refund. To get a refund,
travelers need to fill-in specific forms at the airport tax bureau
before their departure.
